After his studies in Technical Chemistry and subsequent doctoral studies in Technical Sciences at TU Wien (Promotio sub auspiciis Praesidentis rei publicae), he completed a postdoctoral stay funded by an FWF Schrödinger Fellowship in the research group of Prof. Ralph Weissleder at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School (Boston, USA). Hannes Mikula has headed the Molecular Chemistry & Chemical Biology research group at the Institute of Applied Synthetic Chemistry since 2018; in 2021 he was appointed Assistant Professor (tenure track, 'career position', Chemical Biology); in 2023 he received the major teaching license (venia docendi) for the subject “Chemical Biology”. Hannes Mikula has been Associate Professor at the Institute of Applied Synthetic Chemistry since 2023.
