After his diploma studies in chemistry and doctoral studies in technical sciences at the Leopold-Franzens-University of Innsbruck, Prof. Rupprechter spent a postdoctoral period in the USA (University of California at Berkeley and the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory). From 1999 to 2005, Prof. Rupprechter headed the research group “Laser Spectroscopy and Catalysis” at the Fritz Haber Institute of the Max Planck Society in Berlin. In 2005, Prof. Rupprechter completed his habilitation in “Physical Chemistry” at the TU Berlin, and in the same year he accepted a professorship in “Surface and Interface Chemistry” at the TU Vienna.

Prof. Rupprechter's research interests lie in the “Inferface” of surface science and applied heterogeneous catalysis, in particular operando investigations of ongoing catalytic reactions using spectroscopy and microscopy, often at synchrotron radiation sources.
