Based on 40 years of research experience, Anton Friedl has extensive expertise in process development for biomass utilization. Through the application of sustainable process engineering concepts, the fractionated use of raw materials for materials, chemicals, biofuels and energy is the focus of projects in scientific research and industrial applications. Innovative products for pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and food based on natural colloidal lignin and natural bioactive extracts have been developed and patented for lignocellulosic raw materials. Together with cellulose fibre production, the production of biogas, bioethanol, biobutanol and other fermentation products from side process streams is optimized to fully utilize the raw material. The ecological and economic performance of the individual process concepts is evaluated on the basis of industrial experience, experimental research, process simulation and life cycle analyses (LCA).
