Current research topics

Our institute follows various approaches in order to recognize industry developments as early as possible:

Hotel estate that mirrors in the water

ESG key figures & optimization of resource consumption in hotel properties

The collection of industry-specific key figures and benchmarking of energy and water consumption are challenging but essential in order to promote the sustainability of real estate and comply with reporting obligations.

Our research continuously develops relevant key figures and carries out consumption analyses in which factors such as building equipment and user behavior are taken into account in detail. The insights gained provide valuable impetus for more sustainable resource management, e.g. in the hotel industry.

Smart technologies for future-proof competitive advantages

ERP systems form the backbone of modern companies, but are reaching their limits in the constantly changing business world. Our research therefore aims to identify inefficiencies in companies and not only optimize existing systems, but also expand them with innovative services and digital products.

The optimization solutions aim to offer companies a measurable competitive advantage. At the same time, trust is a central factor in the implementation of new, digital concepts. The digital transformation should provide the key to opening up new customer groups.

Building monitoring for consumption optimization

This research approach pursues the technical possibility of fully automated building monitoring. This includes the collection of room data on CO2, temperature, humidity and other characteristics as well as the collection of consumption data such as water, energy and gas consumption. The resulting data is then entered into a database and processed.

This information provides the basis for efficient ESG reporting, but also for optimizing operations. In this way, not only can legal requirements be met, but added value can also be created. The research not only relates to new buildings, but above all to the cost-effective retrofitting of existing buildings without structural interventions in the substance.

Trend development in facility management

Our research tracks current and emerging trends in facility management. The following questions provide an insight into some of our exciting fields of research:

  • How is facility management organized in Austria?
  • Where did costs arise & where could savings be made?
  • Which areas are outsourced to external service providers?
  • Is the home office becoming more and more important?
