Congratulation to the next career step for Markus Zeiler!

Markus Zeiler, Senior Scientist in the Ultrafast Laser Group, is heading towards new missions at the leading nanotechnology company IMS Nanotechnology in Vienna.

Im Labor

Markus has been scientifically very successful in observing attosecond phenomena in atoms and molecules, resulting in numerous publications. He was awarded several research grants and was running a very active research group. Due to his passion for teaching, he had many graduating students at TU Wien and additionally taught at a HTL in Vienna. He was also deeply involved in teaching main bachelor courses at the ETIT faculty such us “Signale and Systeme 1” and “Photonics 1” as well as more specialized master courses.

His career started at TU Wien, where he completed his undergraduate studies followed by a PhD work at the University of Ottawa, Canada, and the TU Wien. He returned to the Photonics Institute in 2004, joining the newly established group of Andrius Baltuska. In 2019, his habilitation was reviewed with excellence and he was promoted to Priv.-Dozent of the TU Wien. His research achievements include the discovery of new ionization mechanisms in polyatomic molecules, the measurement of the phase of a quantum state during strong field ionization with attosecond precision, the control of molecular dissociation by the shape of the laser pulse and the molecular orientation, the determination of electron correlation during multi-color strong field ionization, and recently the attosecond control of electron transfer processes in dimers.

We wish him all the best for controlling electrons at the nanoscale and look forward to collaborating with him in future projects.
