The Data Protection and Document Management Department acts as TU Wien's intermediate archive. Here, items from the Rectorate and the central administration are given a records number and archived. This enables employees with the appropriate authorisation to quickly access administrative files that are not older than 20 years.

After a period of 20 years, the administrative files are offered to the university archive for evaluation. Personal files that were still filed and stored in paper form can generally be found in the university archive.

Furthermore, the department is developing an in-house records management system with the help of the archive and campus information technology departments.

Specifically, this means:

  • You can inspect files up to five years old within two hours.
  • Files older than five years will be available to you within 48 hours.
  • For administrative files older than 20 years, please contact the University Archives.

This is how it works:

  2. Retrieval of the desired file
  3. Inspection or collection at the Data Protection and Document Management Department
