Information on the supplementary examinations

Prior to enrolment in the degree programme

If there is no proof of knowledge of the German language of C1 CEFR level, a so-called supplementary German examination will be prescribed in the admission letter and must be passed before admission to the degree programme,

This supplementary examination can be taken at the university course “Vorstudienlehrgang der Wiener Universitäten” (VWU - University Preparation Programme of the Vienna Universities), which has been set up for this purpose and at which the corresponding courses are attended before the examination. For this purpose, you will first be admitted as a non-degree student at TU Wien. As soon as you are admitted as a non-degree student to take the supplementary examination, you have to take the supplementary examination exclusively within the framework of the VWU and prove this by means of the corresponding positive certificate of the supplementary examination.

After admission as an non-degree student for the VWU other certificates are no longer accepted!
The extension of the residence title student will only be granted by the Foreigners Authority if the supplementary examinations have been successfully completed at the VWU!

All information on the Preparation Programme (registration, costs, deadlines, etc.) can be found on the homepage of the VWU, opens an external URL in a new window.

During the degree programme

Admission to a master's degree programme requires the completion of a subject-related bachelor's degree programme or another equivalent programme at a recognised Austrian or foreign post-secondary educational institution or a degree programme defined in the syllabus of the master’s programme. During processing an application for admission, it will be evaluated whether the previous education shows any subject-specific differences compared to the corresponding bachelor's programme at TU Wien.

If the completed education is deemed fundamentally equivalent but lacks certain content for full equivalence, specific courses from the bachelor's programme will be prescribed as supplementary examinations in the letter of admission.
These must be completed within the first two semesters of the master's programme.

NOTE! As all bachelor programmes offered at TU Wien are taught in German, these supplementary courses too will be in German.
