New Doctoral College: Technology meets Medicine

[Translate to English:] 2-Photon Polymerization

FH Campus Wien and TU Wien jointly launch Doctoral College in the field of Medical Device Research.

The Doctoral College "SOLVER - Skills for Medical Device Research", which is funded by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF)  in the frame of the doc.funds.connect 2023 call, aims at bridging the gap between engineering, materials science and medical biotechnology.
Three new doctoral positions will be created at TU Wien as part of the doctoral college and two at FH Campus Wien - all five will be jointly supervised by the two institutions. Research is being carried out into innovative technologies that will bring significant advances to the medicine of the future.

New materials and individual treatment

An important component of the new Doctoral College is materials research: it is about new bioactive and biodegradable materials. However, research is also being carried out into digital methods to produce devices tailored to individual needs.
Work will also be carried out on new types of in vivo investigations - known as bioassays - that can make predictions about cellular and immunological reactions to bioactive materials. With the help of such bioassays, it is possible to determine at an early stage of material development whether undesirable biological reactions could occur. This in turn enables materials science to adapt existing processes with regard to favorable properties.
