How to Get There

By Public Transport

The planned conference venue is the representative TUtheSky, opens an external URL in a new window hall, located at the top of the high-rise building with a spectacular view over the roofs of Vienna; see the rainbow picture at the top of this page. The address is at Getreidemarkt 9, 1060 Vienna, opens an external URL in a new window. It is located near Karlsplatz, the largest subway station in Vienna. Two subway lines (U1, U4), four streetcars (1, 2, 62, 71), three bus lines (2A, 4A, 59A) and the Badener Bahn stop here.

Leave the subway station at the exit "Secession". The street Getreidemarkt is ahead of you. Cross the street at the street lights, turn right, and follow the street until Getreidemarkt 9. You will see a high-rise building to your left-hand side. Signs will lead you to the conference venue from the entrance to the 11th floor of the building.

By Train

Vienna has two main train stations, Wien Meidling and Hauptbahnhof (Vienna Central Station).

  • At Wien Meidling station: Take the U6 subway (direction "Floridsdorf"), two stops to Längenfeldgasse. There, on the other side of the platform, take the U4 (direction "Heiligenstadt") to "Karlsplatz" (four stops). At Karlsplatz, take the escalators at the back of the train and leave the subway station at the exit "Secession".
  • At Vienna Central Station: Take the subway U1 (direction "Leopoldau"), to "Karlsplatz" (two stops). At Karlsplatz, take the escalators to Karlsplatz in the middle of the train and leave the subway station at the exit "Secession".

If you are travelling with heavy luggage from the south or west, we recommend that you get off the train already in Vienna Meidling and not at Vienna Central Station (the walk from the trains to the subway is much longer at the Central Station).

By Airplane

Vienna International Airport (VIE) is located in Schwechat, about 20 km southeast of Vienna city centre.

Three rail lines serve Vienna's city centre:

The best and cheapest way to get there is by Railjet (RJ), which goes to Wien Hauptbahnhof/Hbf. From there, take the U1 subway in the direction of Leopoldau, two stops to Karlsplatz.
Equally convenient but slower is by S-Bahn to Wien Mitte station. At Wien Mitte, take the U4 in the direction of Hütteldorf, two stops to Karlsplatz.
More expensive and just as fast as the Railjet: The City Airport Train (CAT) also takes you to Wien Mitte station. From there it is another two stops with the U4 (direction Hütteldorf) to Karlsplatz.
Alternatively, at the airport, you can take the shuttle bus (Vienna Airport Lines) to Morzinplatz/Schwedenplatz. From there, take the U1 subway in the direction of Oberlaa/Alaudagasse, two stops to Karlsplatz, or the U4 subway in the direction of Hütteldorf, three stops to Karlsplatz.

Trains and buses run every half hour for most of the day.

By Car

Driving in Vienna is no pleasure - the streets can be quite congested, and the many one-way streets and parking bans are confusing. Also note that you must always give way to streetcars, no matter which direction they cross your path from. If you are arriving by car, the easiest and cheapest way to get around is to park your car near one of the train stations outside Vienna or in a parking house at a subway station at the periphery and then take public transportation (see above). Note that there is a fee for on-street parking in Vienna and parking time is limited to two hours during weekdays.

For the bold who want to defy Vienna's traffic and can afford the parking fees, the best is to drive to WIPARK TU Lehargasse Parkgarage, opens an external URL in a new window (Lehargasse 4, 1060 Vienna), which is directly on the TU premises with the conference venue, and park your car underground. It's best to follow Google Maps or similar to find your way and avoid traffic jams. The underground parking is quite expensive (4.40 EUR per hour, 44.00 EUR per day, prices in September 2024). It is open 24 hours a day. (The entrance door is closed at night, but opens automatically.) The ticket machine accepts credit cards, banknotes up to 50 EUR, and coins (0.05–2 EUR).
