Looking into the Critical Zone to Understand Hydrology and Carbon Cycling

Abstract:

A perspective on the application of near surface geophysical techniques to advance our understanding of Critical Zone structure and processes associated with boreal peatland (organic sediment) systems, such as free phase methane gas dynamics. In the talk he will showcase recent results from ongoing work where hydrogeophysical and temperature sensing methods have been combined to gain novel new insights into the role of piping in regulating peatland hydrology, including the formation of pool systems, through focused inputs of mineralized groundwater.
