GEO Day, the open day of the Department of Geodesy and Geoinformation at DAVIS

On April 3, 2025, GEO Day took place at TU Wien – an open house event that introduced students to the exciting world of geodesy and geoinformation. In two time slots, school classes had the opportunity to experience firsthand how surveying, earth observation, laser scanning, and robotics are used to analyze and shape our environment.

The TU Wien Bibliothek was proud to support this event at DAVIS. GEO Day impressively demonstrated the importance of collaboration between different institutes, the library, and external partners in making science understandable and tangible. Through interdisciplinary cooperation, knowledge can be shared, resources can be used efficiently, and young talents can be inspired to pursue forward-thinking fields of study.

Geodesy and geoinformation combine cutting-edge technology with real-world applications. Students learn how to use satellites, laser scanners, and sensors to measure the Earth and analyze environmental changes. These disciplines play a key role in climate research, urban planning, navigation, and even the development of autonomous vehicles.

What makes this field particularly exciting is its interdisciplinary nature: geodesy integrates mathematics, physics, and computer science with hands-on solutions for global challenges. Graduates have excellent career prospects in research, industry, and public administration – as precise geospatial data is more in demand than ever in today’s digital world!

A big thank you to everyone involved for making this event a success!
