2015W Big Design QUARTER 4.0

TRANSFORMATION QUARTER 4.0

on the site of the former freight yard in Offenbach

Development of an urban quarter for industry 4.0/ urban production in Offenbach

Competition with introductory workshop of the Kulturkreis der deutschen Wirtschaft 2015/16 in cooperation with aurelis Real Estate and with the support of the city of Offenbach.

The aim is to develop an urban quarter as an integrative mixed-use area on the site of the former Offenbach freight yard, which covers a total area of 90,000 square metres. The design of the quarter is intended to create exemplary urban structures for future coexistence with the direct juxtaposition, or better yet, interaction of work, production, services and, to some extent, living. Additional facilities for trade, gastronomy, culture, leisure and social activities, as well as the means of production such as 3D printers that will be available here in workshops, studios and small companies, will directly serve the needs of the neighbourhood, but should also promote links with other districts from the outset through open shared use.

New typologies are to be developed for the buildings, which, as open, use-neutral structures, can react to changing future uses and thus contribute to sustainability. In addition to the design, statements on energy efficiency, sustainability and the conservation of resources at the urban, neighbourhood and building level are essential parts of the task.

The REAL ESTATE AWARD - Munich Airport successfully established a cooperation between universities and Munich Airport. The aim was to create a forum in which future-oriented ideas for real challenges could be developed and their marketability tested.

The aim of the REAL ESTATE AWARD - Munich Airport was to think, discuss, argue and act in an interdisciplinary and innovative way on the basis of a real project - and ultimately to find practical and realisable solutions.
