ETIA explores the final journeys of Vienna's leftovers

On November 19, 2024, the MSc ETIA student group had the opportunity to visit two key environmental facilities in Vienna: the Waste Incineration Plant Simmering and the Sewage Treatment Plant / ebs Kläranlage Wien. These excursions provided students with valuable hands-on insights into the city’s advanced environmental technologies and sustainable practices.

At the Simmering plant, students learned about the innovative processes behind waste-to-energy systems and how the plant contributes to Vienna's sustainable waste management strategy. The visit to the ebs Kläranlage Wien gave an in-depth look into the city’s cutting-edge water treatment processes, focusing on the challenges of wastewater management and environmental protection.

One student highlighted: “The excursions were very insightful, and we enjoyed them very much!”

These field trips were an excellent way for the MSc ETIA students to connect their academic studies with real-world applications, gaining a deeper understanding of the critical infrastructure that supports urban sustainability. It was an enriching experience that highlighted the importance of innovation in tackling environmental challenges.
