Hinrich Grothe is full Professor in Physical Chemistry of the Atmosphere at the Institute of Materials Chemistry. He was trained in chemistry at the Leibniz University of Hannover, Germany, where he earned a Ph.D. in low-temperature chemistry. He had research stays at University of Oslo and at Virginia Tech. Dr. Grothe's current research interests involve understanding ice nucleation in clouds triggered by biological particles. He is also interested in the aging and processing of organic construction materials. Dr. Grothe is an important contributor to the European Geosciences Union (EGU) where he is the science officer of the section Atmospheric Chemistry & Aerosols and he is an editor of the Copernicus journal Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics.
