The Senate is committed to ongoing development that clarifies and strengthens its self-image, its role and its contribution to TU Wien.
The Senate members have been active in the fuTUre fit process since June 2024, and in March 2025 the
Achieve, Avoid and Preserve statements were adopted:

Achieve

  • With its specific initiatives and beyond the minimum legal mandate, the Senate actively shapes the university framework on an equal footing with the Rectorate and University Council.
  • The attractiveness and visibility of the Senate and recognition for its work are significantly increased.
  • The Senate communicates its content and decisions internally and externally in a clear, comprehensible and accessible form.
  • The Senate's self-efficacy is significantly increased through the balanced participation of all groups of people and pragmatic, targeted and constructive meetings.
  • With a clearly defined process landscape, the Senate creates an environment that supports it in its work without restricting its flexibility and ability to act.

Avoid

  • Too short-term and too little involvement in processes and topics that are in the interests of the Senate.
  • Particular interests that prevent agreement on the overarching interests of the university.
  • The creation of unnecessary administrative hurdles by the Senate.

Preserve

  • Central role in the election of the Rectorate.
  • Co-design of the statutes of TU Wien.
  • Decisive role in the design of the curricula.
  • Quality assurance in teaching.
  • Trusting and collegial cooperation in the Senate and with faculties, groups of people and across the entire university and the overall very good culture of dialogue.
  • Largely compromise-orientated decision-making processes.
  • The uniqueness of the Senate as a ‘parliamentary’ plenum for all members of the university and all issues affecting the university.
  • Critical scrutiny of projects and ideas.
  • Stability and continuity of the Senate, including through the support of the Senate Office, which acts as a ‘knowledge repository’, among other things.
  • Respectful interaction at eye level.
