Anyone who wants to study at TU Wien has to complete the online registration. Depending on which degree programme you are interested in, the online registration includes either the registration for the selection procedure or the aptitude assessment procedure (Programme-PRe-Phase).

Once you have completed the online registration and the selection procedure/aptitude assessment, you will receive in your registration account an admission code. With this admission code and all other documents required for admission you come to the Admission Office in person to complete the enrollment within the admission period and during the opening hours.

You have to make online an appointment in the Admission Office for the enrolment in person at the end of the online registration.

In study programmes with selection procedure the number of available study places is limited. The selection of the students takes place before the admission to the bachelor's programme.

NOTE!
Bachelor programmes with selection procedures have separate registration deadlines (Architecture, Computer Science, Spatial Planning). The registration period starts in spring and the selection procedure takes place only once a year before the beginning of the winter semester. If the registration deadline is missed, participation in the selection procedure and admission to the bachelor's programme is not possible for the current academic year.

Once you have obtained a study place, you will have to compelte the online registration by uploading all necessary documents. You are NOT required to personally come into the Admission Office! The admission will be done entirely online. Once your application is approved, you will receive an e-mail with all necessary information. Afterwards you will have to pay the prescribed ÖH-/tuition fee to finalise the enrolment. Your student ID card (TUCard) will be sent to you via post to the address provided within the framework of your online registration.

All bachelor programmes without selection procedure an aptitude procedure has to be completed prior to admission: study preparation and reflection phase (Programme-PRe-Phase).

This study preparation and reflection phase should provide a basis for entry into the chosen bachelor's programme. The structure and content of the Programme-PRe-Phase are determined by the representatives of the respective bachelor's programme and must be completed prior to admission.

In the following programmes the PRe-Phase has to be completed as part of the online registration:

  • Civil Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Geodesy and Geoinformation
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Technical Chemistry
  • Technical Mathematics
  • Technical Physics
  • Environmental Engineering
  • Chemical and Process Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering - Economics

The online registration is open from the beginning of the general admission period. Upon completion of the Programme-PRe-Phase, you will receive an admission code in your registration account, which you have to bring along with all other required documents for admission in person to the Admission Office.

You have to make online an appointment in the Admission Office for the enrolment in person at the end of the online registration.

NOTE!
The online registration including the Programme-PRe-Phase must be completed in full at the latest by September 5th for the winter semester and by February 5th for the summer semester! Otherwise, admission is not possible (see admission deadlines). Personal enrollment in the Admission Office can be done after timely completion of the Programme-PRe-Phase until September 12th for the winter semester and until Februar 12th for the summer semester.

If German is NOT your first or native language, you are required to provide proof of German skills at level A2 or higher at the time when you submit your application for admission to a German-taught programme at TUW. To get admitted at the degree programme you need German language skills at level C1. TU Wien only accepts the certificates listed as proof of competence in German language. Please carefully read the information about proof of language proficiency.

You do not need to present a language certificate to register for and complete the selection or aptitude assessment procedure.

As the tests are conducted in German, we recommend advanced German language skills (at least level B2 CEFR) to be able to participate successfully in the selection or the aptitude assessment procedure.

Have you previously studied computer science, architecture or spatial planning at another university in Austria or abroad and would like to continue your programme at TU Wien? Then you have the opportunity to enter these bachelor's programmes "laterally", without having to complete the admission procedure.

The prerequisites for lateral entry are:

  • at least 90 ECTS
  • an equivalent Bachelor's programme
  • at a national or international recognised post-secondary educational institution.

The Dean of Academic Affairs is responsible for examining the relevance and equivalence of the programmes. Therefore, as a first step, you should contact the respective dean's office. Once equivalence has been determined, you will receive a corresponding confirmation from the Dean of Academic Affairs, which must be submitted to the Admissions Office as part of the admission process.
