Full Title: Implementation of a LLM-based Chatbot for Assessing Inclusivity in Manufacturing Enterprises

Duration: 01/03/2025 - 30/11/2025

Abstract:

This project addresses the continuing challenges faces by people with disailities in securing and maintaining employment, particularly in the manufacturing sector. Despite international frameworks such as the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) and Sustainable Development Goal 10, which advocate for diversity, inclusion and the reduction of social and economic inequalities, significant barriers to employment persist. In Europe, only 51.3% of working-age people with disabilities are in paid employment (European Disability Forum, 2023), and in Austria the employment rate was 55.6% in 2022. Furthermore, austrian companies with 25 or more employees are legally obliged to employ at least one registered disabled person per 25 employees.

MyAbility, the key partner in this project, specializes in disability management and inclusion strategies. Currently, inclusivity assessments rely on expert assessments and a maturity model, which are time consuming, inconsistent and highly dependent on expert availability. This project aims to improve and automate the assessment process using a Large Language Model (LLM)-based chatbot. Leveraging myAbility's extensive inclusivity dataset, the chatbot will streamline data collection, provide tailored handling actions, and continuously update its database in line with evolving global and corporate inclusivity standards. This transformation will enable a scalable and consistent approach to inclusivity assessment, benefiting businesses and employees alike.

Results:

Within this project, an LLM-based chatbot will be developed to automate the inclusivity assessment process, which will reduce the reliance on manual expert assessments. The chatbot will effectively collect inclusivity data from business partners of myAbility in real time, ensuring a more consistent and scalable approach. It will provide tailored remediation actions based on the myAbility assessment model, improving decision-making and actionability. The chatbot's continuous update capability will enable it to incorporate new inclusivity criteria with minimal effort, aligning assessments with evolving standards. At the end of the project, myAbility has a powerful tool to facilitate inclusive workplace strategies in manufacturing companies, reinforcing its commitment to economic sustainability and social impact for people with disabilities.
