Biography

Wolfgang H. Güttel is Full Professor for Leadership & Strategy at the Institute of Management Sciences and Dean of the Academy for Continuing Education at the Vienna University of Technology. From 2011 to 2015 he was Dean and Managing Director of the JKU Management School LIMAK (International Management Academy Linz). Previously, he was Professor at the Universities of Linz (Austria), Kassel and Hamburg (Germany) and Research Fellow at the Universities of Liverpool (UK) and Padua (Italy). He was also Assistant Professor at WU Vienna (Austria). As a visiting professor, he taught and researched at King's College London, the University of Geneva and the Ruhr University Bochum. Prior to his academic career, he worked as a management consultant at Daimler-Benz AG in Stuttgart and Diebold Management Consulting in Vienna. He also founded his own consulting firm, Güttel Management Consulting, Training & Research in Vienna, Austria. Since then, he has supported companies and executives in consulting projects and executive training with the aim of applying scientific management knowledge to solve practical challenges in development and change processes.

Research and Teaching

Wolfgang H. Güttel's research and teaching focus is "Leading.Strategic Change". He is interested in leadership, strategic change, and learning in the context of new technologies in complex and dynamically evolving environments. He focuses on the dynamic interplay of strategy, organization, HRM, and leadership, as well as the role of organizational rule systems and leaders' decision heuristics in unpredictable markets. A particular focus is on case study-based behavioral theory in organizations and the development of new theoretical foundations. His work has been published in numerous academic books and journals.

He is also active in executive education and in consulting with executives, businesses, and public organizations on strategic change. His executive teaching focuses on leadership, team development, organization, strategy, and change management.
