Practical Evaluation of the Leica Geosystems AP20 AutoPole

The expansion of classical surveying instruments into total stations has broadened both their application and user base. Innovative technologies are enhancing the efficiency and potential accuracy of measurement data, making multi-sensor systems the state-of-the-art in modern surveying. However, their increased technical complexity raises questions about achievable accuracy and system limitations in practical use.The AP20 AutoPole, introduced by Leica Geosystems in 2022, exemplifies this technological advancement. It offers tilt-compensated coordinate determination, expanding application possibilities while simplifying workflows. This thesis evaluates the AP20 AutoPole system, beginning with a theoretical overview of its components and methodology. The study compares the AP20 AutoPole to conventional geodetic methods for point measurement, followed by an in-depth examination of the AP20 AutoPole's initialization process. Various motion types and their effects on initialization are analyzed. Finally,  the insights are evaluated in a practical scenario.
