How does our brain work? The complex electrical activity that occurs can be measured and analyzed using electroencephalography (EEG). In a collaboration with the Technical University of Munich, new parameters are being investigated in order to precisely characterize states of consciousness. Innovative methods such as Entropy of Difference and Granger Causality are used to visualize the flow of information in the brain. The thyroid gland plays a central role in our hormonal system, but more and more people are suffering from thyroid disorders. In a pioneering project with the Medical University of Vienna, mathematical models are being developed and validated to improve the treatment of hypothyroidism. The aim is to shorten the time to optimal medication.
