December has started and Christmas is just around the corner. We invite you to get to know our institute's research a little better. Every day until the 24th December we will introduce you to one of our projects. Let's see which one is hidden behind door number one of the advent calendar.

Today we open the second door of our calendar. We are happy to present our next project...

Curious about our next project behind door number 3?

Waiting behind door number 4 is the next ASC project.

On today's feast day for Saint Barbara we would also like to propose a little project for which you don't need any mathematical knowledge: Put a twig of a cherry tree into warm water. If it blossoms before christmas it will bring you extra luck for the New Year. Our Pro-Tip: Popping the twig into the freezer two days before might increase your chances.

Greeting from Saint Nicholas' helper! Don't worry, you won't find a piece of coal behind door number 5. We want to introduce the next project to you in more detail.

Now let's open door number 6. Which project has Saint Nicholas left for us to look into today

"Oh the weather outside is frightful..."

Let's hurry inside and see which project is awaits us behind door number 7.

Today we light the second candle on the advent wreath. The next project is awaiting, let's open door number 8.

Oh my, it's Monday again. The weekend felt like it was way too short. Have you found it just as challenging to get out of bed today? Let's look behind door number 9 to see what challenges the research team are facing in their project.

Let's carry on with door number 10.

"Who's that knocking?"
Come on in, let's see who'll come out of the next door number 11.

Time flies! We've already made it halfway through our advent calendar. Can you feel that pull coming from door number 12? Let's check it out.

Today we are commemorating Saint Lucy. She is the bearer of the light in the darkness of winter. Which project will be illuminated by her today behind the next door?

10 more days to go before Christmas Eve is here. Time is moving fast. The next project stems from the field of numerics which is about approximation in a mathematical sense. Find out more by opening door number 14.

"Gaudete – Rejoice"

Anticipation is rising as Christmas is drawing nearer. And we are happy to present to you another aspect of project work: In addition to research, each project also involves a lot of administrative work as well. Find out more about those who are helping with that by opening door number 15.

We hope you had a relaxing weekend and can start the last week before Christmas with new energy. How about looking behind the next door before starting work?

Open, door number 16!

The next subproject of "Taming Complexity in Partial Differential Systems"  is waiting behind door number 17. At ASC a total of 6 teams are working on different aspects of this comprehensive Special Research Programme (SFB).

Off-topic we would also like to highlight Team Christkindl which will serve mulled wine, red wine punch and non-acoholic punch in Hof 1, Karlsplatz 13. Pop by, it's for a good cause. You will also be able to buy sandwiches. The musical highlight will be advent music Bichler Brass, starting 17:30.

The next door leads us to another project. Come on in!

"Jingle bells, jingle bells..."

Can you feel the same tingling sensation? It's our growing anticipation, not only for Christmas to come, but also for getting to know the next project a little better. Can't wait to open door number 19.

Only four more days before Christmas Eve! It's hard to believe that we have already made it to door number 20. We are thrilled to present the next research project.

Today is the official beginning of winter, it is the shortest day of the year. But don't worry, even though daylight is very limited today, our advent calendar – being digital – comes with background lighting. So let's take a look behind door number 21.

On the fourth Sunday of advent the advent wreath shines in its full splendor as we light all four candles. Which project will we see illuminated behind door number 22?

We start into a very short week today. Tomorrow is Christmas Eve. Only two more doors left to open, but all in all we have more third-party funded research than can be presented in 24 days.

This is why we have hung up our project list that summarises all running and also the completed projects behind door number 23. See for yourself!

We have finished with the presentation of our projects. But for those who can't get enough of our research at ASC and would like to delve into the topics even deeper we would like to open the last door, opens an external URL in a new window to an extensive database which offers enough reading material – old and new research findings of our project members – to last until New Year's Eve and far beyond.

We hope you enjoyed our project advent calendar and learnt more about what happens behind the scenes for our research at ASC. We wish you a peaceful Christmas Eve!
