TU Wien Bibliothek offers a large part of its current literature in an electronic format. E-books, e-journals and databases can be used by TU Wien students and employees, as well as by external users, with different types and conditions of access.

As a rule, publishers control access on the basis of the IP address of the PC requesting access. Therefore, you need to have a VPN connection active when you are outside the TU Wien campus. In addition, some platforms have an “institutional login”, so that a login mask appears where you enter your TUaccount username and password.

How do I access e-books, e-journals and databases?

TU Wien students and employees

  • At the terminals in the library, in the TU Wien internet rooms and at the institutes
  • At your own computer via TUnet
  • with your TUaccount from anywhere using VPN (choose the "All tunnelled" option during VPN login)

External (non-TU Wien) users

  • At the terminals in the library
  • Note that access from off campus is not possible for external users due to licence restrictions.

Terms of use for electronic resources

TU Wien Bibliothek concludes license agreements with providers of electronic content and is obliged to ensure compliance with the terms of use. In case of infringements, we reserve the right to take legal steps.

Personal use

Full-text content from licensed e-resources may only be saved and/or printed for personal use in the context of research, teaching and learning. Commercial use of these resources is explicitly prohibited.

Sharing of content

Sharing full-text content in digital or printed form is prohibited for legal reasons. Sharing content is only allowed via links to resources for the purpose of research, teaching and learning.

Systematic download and external applications

Systematic downloading, especially through the use of web crawlers (robots), is prohibited. Likewise, the use of content in external applications, such as bots or software, including those using artificial intelligence technologies like large language models (LLMs) and generative AI, is not permitted. Freely available resources

In the case of freely available resources (including Open Access), other, extended terms of use may apply. If the full-text content is licensed under a Creative Commons (CC) license, please check it against the corresponding CC terms.
