Mission

The Vienna PDE Center is an initiative to bundle the excellence in the research on Partial Differential Equations (PDEs) in Vienna, to strengthen the Viennese PDE activities, and to provide a contact point for interdisciplinary projects involving PDEs in applications.

The center covers all areas of partial differential equations, including the mathematical modeling of real-world applications, the analysis of the resulting differential equations, the development and study of modern numerical methods, and the numerical simulation of the discretized problems on workstations and high-performance computers. Topics like dynamical systems, stochastic (partial) differential equations, and relations to stochastic processes are also included. The center plays an important role at the interface between basic research in Mathematics and technical-scientific applications. The doctoral school Dissipation and Dispersion in nonlinear PDEs, opens an external URL in a new window and the special research programm Taming Complexity in Partial Differential Systems, opens an external URL in a new window are two cornerstones of the center.
