Institute of Transportation

The Institute of Transportation is concerned with the planning, construction and maintenance of the transport infrastructure required for today's and tomorrow's mobility needs and is an international leader in transport research and teaching. Our current research highlights the strong correlation between economic growth, the demand for transport services and the supply of transport infrastructure.

The focus is on: energy-minimising settlement structures; sustainable dimensioning of transport infrastructure using the latest findings in materials technology and numerical methods; safe, high-quality intermodal transport systems with minimal friction losses, supported by modern transport telematics; use of the full spectrum of renewable energies and technologies for environmentally friendly and sustainable mobility; reduction of noise emissions through innovations in materials technology and construction; innovative local public transport concepts for urban and rural areas; development of approaches for optimising infrastructure investments.
