As part of the excursion, a small group of interested students was able to visit both jacking tubes of the "KAT 1" construction lot for the construction of the Koralm Railway. After a detailed introduction to the overall project by a representative of the client (ÖBB) and by the head of the local construction supervision, the safety equipment was handed out and the tunnelling tubes were driven.

In the north tube, the tunnelling crew could be observed inserting the system anchorage (SN mortar anchor). Other pre-securing and proppants used: skewers, tunnel arches, shotcrete protection, face anchors (see Fig. 1).

In the course of the excursion, an open tunnel face could be viewed in the tunnelling of the south tube (see Fig. 2), which was not only made possible by happy coincidence, but also by the disciplined (site-appropriate) behaviour of the excursion participants. The tight space conditions in the tunnelling itself and in the shattering in particular required the utmost caution on the part of the excursion guides and visitors.
