Since 2004 Gesa Witthöft works in the research unit sociology drawing on her interdisciplinary education and career: she passed the first state examination for teaching geography, German literature, political sciences and sociology in secondary schools; is a graduate engineer in urban design/ urban planning; and worked as a freelancer in urban planning, development and renewal. In 2008 she obtained a doctorate with the thesis on “Conceptualizing municipality. Social oriented urban development between inner development and planning through projects.”

Next to her research, Gesa Witthöft represents her faculty in the Committee on Equal Treatment at TU Wien. For the institute she is member in the curriculum committee for spatial planning. In her research unit she is coordinator for the European student exchange programme ERASMUS, and also the coordinator for teaching.
