About the SmartHubs research project

The project SmartHubs, opens an external URL in a new window analysed mobility hubs. Mobility hubs are defined as specific locations on the street where citizens can choose from various shared and sustainable mobility options.

The main objective was to assess whether a jointly designed, user-centred development of mobility hubs promotes sustainable urban mobility and at the same time improves the accessibility of mobility modes. In this context, SmartHubs analysed, developed and applied research methods and tools in four SmartHubs Living Labs in Belgium (Brussels), the Netherlands (Rotterdam-The Hague), Germany (Munich) and Austria (Vienna and aspern Seestadt). A strong focus was placed on the development and use of participatory tools and tools for assessing the impact of mobility hubs.
