New course "Advanced Concrete Engineering"

You are a student at TU Wien, Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering and want to broaden your horizons on reinforced concrete and its application to structures? This summer term we are launching the Advanced Concrete Engineering Course under the coordination of Prof. Philipp Preinstorfer. This course is a great opportunity to learn

✔️ How to characterize the material behaviour of high-performance building materials in concrete construction
✔️ How to describe the load bearing and deformation behaviour of concrete structures made of non-conventional building materials
✔️ How to optimize the shape, geometry and material selection in concrete structures
✔️ How to apply design concepts in concrete construction that go beyond standard procedures

There is still time to register for the course. We decided to make the course entirely in English so that it is also attractive for visiting students from abroad.

The course comprises a mixture of classical lectures - the first of which will take place on 6 March - and engaging methods of teaching. An essential part of the course is a design competition where students work in small groups to create a concrete structure made from non-conventional building materials. The formwork is manufactured with our partners at DataB, who specialise in the manufacture of customised formwork, and the structures are then tested in our laboratory to check their performance.

This course is an excellent example of research-guided teaching. In particular, our latest findings on non-metallic reinforcements and thin-walled construction with textile-reinforced concrete will be an integral part of the course.

Looking forward to seeing many students in the course.
