Transport Planning Research Seminar with Dr. Paul M. Timms

Paul M. Timms, from the Institute of Transport Studies, University of Leeds will give a presentation at FVV on January 24th 2024.

He will talk about "art and sustainable mobility". Over the past 7 years, more than 20 Masters students in the Institute for Transport, University of Leeds, have been writing their dissertations on the topic of "art and transport". These dissertations have covered a wide variety of topics concerning visual art and music, mainly in in public space and in public transport (trains, buses, stations and bus stops). The lecture will give an overview of these dissertations and will identify future research paths that result from them.

Bio

Qualifications: BA(Hons) in Mathematics (1974) Oxford University;  MSc in Transport Planning and Engineering (1986);  PhD in Transport Modelling (1990)  University of Leeds

Present Post: lecturer at the Institute for Transport Studies, University of Leeds

Previous Employment: Various jobs in community work, including involvement in public participation in transport planning (1974-1985).

Research Experience and Specialist Expertise:

A large number of research projects concerned with transport policy and transport modelling

Consultancy and Other Personal Assignments:

Overseas Professional Engagements have included consultancy, research and teaching assignments in Thailand, Vietnam, India, Brazil, Malaysia, Indonesia, Laos, Cambodia, El Salvador, Rwanda, Chile, Russia and China.

Teaching at ITS:

Module leader and developer of MSc module “Global Transferability of Policies”; provision of lectures to various modules (undergraduate and postgraduate). Currently supervising 6 PhD students, from Nigeria, South Korea, Bangladesh, Dubai, Saudi Arabia and UK; past supervisor of a further 16 students who successfully completed their PhDs. Supervisor of 9 current MSc dissertations and 50+ past MSc dissertations, including 17 dissertations since 2017 on the topic of ‘art and transport’, concerned with art in: urban public space; metro stations; buses; and airport terminals.
