Publishing videos – what to consider from a data protection perspective

Andere

This workshop will present both the legal aspects and practical solutions.

Videos are becoming increasingly important as research output and in teaching, as they can illustrate complex concepts and results. Especially in technology, visual demonstrations can make a significant contribution to understanding. Videos also provide visual documentation of experiments and field studies that can be archived for the long term.

Furthermore, videos support interdisciplinary collaboration and knowledge transfer. They promote accessibility, especially for a wider audience, including technical experts, students, and the general public. They are an effective tool for public relations and science communication, as they can increase the visibility and impact of research and promote interest in scientific topics.

When publishing videos, however, the privacy of the people depicted must be protected. In this workshop, we would like to introduce you to the legal basis and practical measures for data protection-compliant implementation. These range from the legal aspects of video creation or distribution to technical and organisational measures.

The training is aimed at the creators of videos and those who distribute or make the videos available. Basic knowledge of data protection law is an advantage for understanding the training but is not a prerequisite. The basics of data protection law will be briefly repeated to the degree required for the training.
