On June 24, 2023, Ernst Bauer and Peter Rogl, University of Vienna, received the "Outstanding Achievement Award" of the International Thermoelelctric Society (ITS) at the "International Conference on Thermoelectricity" in Seattle, USA. With this award, the ITS honors the outstanding scientific work of Ernst Bauer and Peter Rogl in this field.

Thermoelectricity makes it possible, for example, to generate electricity directly for consumers from heat that would otherwise be lost, without additional machinery such as generators or compressors. With a large number of research projects in this field, Ernst Bauer and his diploma and doctoral students have contributed to important advances and findings. This field of work combines basic research with applications in an almost ideal way. Among other things, two patents could be realized for the Austrian economy within the framework of a "Christian Doppler Laboratory for Thermoelectricity".
