Nikolaus Geyrhalter's latest film, "Matter Out Of Place, opens an external URL in a new window" is centered around the issue of waste in our society. The film depicts landscapes of plastic and styrofoam, towering heaps of garbage, and oceans polluted with plastics. Additionally, the film follows individuals in their work of collecting, incinerating, crushing, and repurposing waste.

For a University of Technology, waste is also a highly relevant topic. Solutions for recycling and circular economy are developed here, researching whether and how waste can become a resource to reduce the pressure on natural resources.

Following the film presentation, the scientists Vasiliki-Maria Archodoulaki (Structural Polymers, TU Wien), Maria Kalleitner-Huber (Sustainability Officer, Mozarteum University Salzburg) and Jakob Lederer (Recycling Technologies and Systems, TU Wien) will discuss with the director the possibilities and challenges of science in shaping the transition to a sustainable and environmentally friendly economy through the circular economy. Heidi Shaar will moderate the Lounge talk.

The film will be shown with English subtitles.

Participation is free of charge but places are limited and registration is required. For further information, please visit tuwien.at/vision/.
