VADOR Events Calendar

Our team is constantly involved in research projects, frequently involving collaboration with international scientists and institutions. Research is carried out in a number of languages, however we present mostly in English.

We frequently host one off lectures on topics relating to variational analysis, dynamics and operations research.  In term-time, we host different speakers at our weekly AKOR seminar.  Seminars take place most Thursdays at 3pm in Sem. R. DB gelb 04 Once a month, the AKOR seminar will be replaced by the Vienna Seminar on Optimization, opens an external URL in a new window - a joint venture with Radu Bot and Yurii Malitskyi of the University of Vienna

We organise the Viennese Conference on Optimal Control and Dynamic Games, typically every three years.  The next iteration - VC2025 - will take place in July 2025.  For further details on this conference, and its forerunners, please visit the VC2025, opens an external URL in a new window website.

Topics and speakers for all forthcoming events will be posted below.

AKOR Seminar: On the regularity of selections and on Minty points of generalized monotone set-valued maps

Seminar

Nicolas Hadjisavvas, University of the Aegean

Abstract: Let T be a generalized monotone set-valued map a Banach space X to its dual X*(for example, quasimonotone, or pseudomonotone in the Karamardian sense). If  S is another set-valued map from X to X* with the property that for every x in X, the set S(x) is contained in the set of strictly positive multiples of elements of T(x), then it is clear that S has the same kind of generalized monotonicity as T. In addition, the corresponding variational inequality problems have the same solutions.

In this talk, we focus on the following question: Can we select a single-valued operator S as above, which enjoys some property of continuous (in any sense)?

We show that this is indeed possible under appropriate continuity assumptions on T. In the last part notions of Minty points of T are introduced, and their relationship with zeros as well as effective zeros of T is discussed; a correlation is established between these concepts and the generalized monotonicity of the map T.
