Two Events – A Variety of Themes

While Karlstag focused on exploring Vienna’s cultural and visual landscape, the Vienna Design Week delivered powerful impulses in the realms of art, environment, and technology. The theme of water -  its spiritual, ecological, and cultural significance - was a central topic throughout many Vienna Design Week programs. Together, the two events attracted over 100 visitors to the Data Visualisation Space (DAVIS), offering captivating insights into the world of art, culture, and technology.

Karlstag 2024: The Mega Tour – A Virtual Journey Over Vienna

On September 27, Karlstag featured a unique highlight: a guided tour in DAVIS with a breathtaking 3D visualization of a flight from Kahlenberg across Vienna, landing at Karlsplatz. This visual experience provided a one-of-a-kind perspective of the city, impressing guests with cutting-edge technology at TU Wien Bibliothek..

Vienna Design Week 2024: Art Meets Water, Climate Change, and Urban Challenges

During the Vienna Design Week, the Touchwall presentation of the art project “Free Genie” by Regina Hügli questioned the way water is commodified, opening deeper reflections on the spiritual, cultural, and ecological meanings of water. In addition to this artistic display, a public discussion on urban water supply in the Global North and South was also featured. Guests were further invited to participate in "One Body of Water", an interactive knowledge and discussion game that explored the impacts of climate change on urban environments.

Looking Ahead

Both Karlstag 2024 and the Vienna Design Week demonstrated the importance of bringing together technological innovation, artistic reflection, and societal discourse. TU Wien Bibliothek and DAVIS proved to be ideal spaces for these interdisciplinary encounters. We look forward to 2025!
