On 08 May the Data Visualisation Space Davis, was inaugurated in TU Wien Bibliothek by Vice Rector Josef Eberhardsteiner and Library Director Beate Guba.

What does Davis offer?

Davis, the Data Visualisation Space in the library, is designed as an experimental learning space for teachers and students.  A 3D-capable, floor-to-ceiling LED wall provides an intuitive and immersive experience of complex interrelationships of digital data through visualisation. An interactive touch wall that is nearly 5 metres long is used to develop and convey interactive content. Together with early adopers from different faculties, the library is at present developing course formats and exploring usage possibilities. From the winter semester 2023, Davis will be ready for wider use in teaching.

Why was Davis set up in the library?

The library is an interdisciplinary and cross-faculty space offering low-threshold and experimental access at an open and central location that is already an important learning space for students. The Space is to be used for teaching activities. Once they have obtained a “driver’s license”, students can also use the space independently during the opening hours of the library. Davis is open 7 days a week, on weekdays until 22:00.

For the development of this infrastructure and for its use in teaching, the library is cooperating with partners from different faculties. Applications for the data visualization space can be found in all faculties. From molecule structures in technical chemistry to flow simulations in mechanical engineering, from network coverage in electrical engineering to geographical information systems in the geosciences to gaming and film in informatics, this central infrastructure is particularly suited to advancing interdisciplinary cooperation between the faculties.
