As part of the excursion, a group of interested students was able to visit the construction work for the renovation and new construction of the A23 Inzersdorf elevated road in Vienna. After a detailed introduction to the overall project by a representative of the client (ASFINAG), the geotechnical planner explained the challenges, in particular the settlement problem due to the embankment fills under the existing structure in the various construction phases. Subsequently, the construction site was visited. The focus was on the production and metrological monitoring of the dam fill, including reinforced earth constructions under the existing elevated road. The local construction supervision specifically addressed the geotechnical issues. Another highlight was the production of bored piles under the elevated road, where specially adapted bored piling equipment is used under limited height conditions. Execution as well as geotechnical issues and the resulting problems were explained in detail by representatives of the executing consortium. The accompaniment of the excursion by representatives of the client as well as by representatives of the executing companies gave a very interesting insight into the execution of the work and the handling of the construction project.
