TU Wien at CLF 2025: Advancing STEM Education through Extended Reality

At the 15th Conference on Learning Factories (CLF2025), our research unit proudly presented its latest research contribution: "Transforming STEM Education with Extended Reality: A Replicable Framework for University Integration."

[Translate to English:] Eine visuelle Übersicht der XR-Roadmap der TU Wien mit sechs zentralen Schritten zur Integration von Extended Reality (XR) in die Lehre: (1) Content-Identifikation – Auswahl relevanter Lehrinhalte und Technologien; (2) Content-Erstellung – Entwicklung von 3D-Modellen und deren Umsetzung in XR-Inhalte; (3) Implementierung – Integration der XR-Inhalte in Plattformen wie TUWEL, MR Lab und Davis Lab; (4) Schulung – Ausbildung von Lehrenden, Studierenden und Support-Personal im Umgang mit XR-Technologie; (5) Unterstützung – Begleitung und Motivation während der ersten Umsetzungen; (6) Buchungssystem – Organisation des Zugangs zu XR-Ressourcen über MR Lab und Davis Lab.

Representing TU Wien’s ongoing commitment to innovation in teaching, this work forms part of the university’s XR Roadmap and builds on key insights from the funded research project XRinTeaching.

The presented framework addresses the plausibility and scalability of integrating XR technologies into engineering education, with a specific focus on the demands and dynamics of STEM disciplines. By offering a replicable and strategic approach, the research aims to support higher education institutions in bridging the gap between emerging technologies and meaningful, scalable learning experiences.

This work was prepared by TU Wien’s Research Unit for Production & Maintenance Management and the Institute for Integrated Construction Planning and Industrial Building.
