Summer student job in climate and environmental remote sensing

The research unit Climate and Environmental Remote Sensing (CLIMERS) of the Department of Geodesy and Geoinformation (GEO) is looking for a

Summer Student

to work full time (40 hours/week) for 2-3 months during the summer holidays (July – September).

The CLIMERS unit (https://www.tuwien.at/mg/geo/climers) engages in fundamental and applied remote sensing research for climate and environmental use. We develop methods, algorithms and open source code to generate value-added products from microwave satellite observations, for example for soil moisture, vegetation conditions, drought monitoring, and fire forecasting. Furthermore, the team develops novel applications by collaborating with scientists from many other fields such as hydrology, meteorology, agronomy, and forestry.

You will support the team with various programming tasks in specific research projects dealing with the topics described above. Details will be defined upon start of the contract based on your qualifications and interests.

Programming skills (Python) and the capability to work efficiently and independently are required. A good statistical or mathematical background, and basic knowledge in remote sensing data analysis, machine learning (Python Scikit Learn Library), and image processing are an asset.

The salary for this position is based on the Austrian regulations for university staff. The monthly minimum salary will be € 2,699.20 (gross, based on full-time employment).
