Extension of "Distance Learning" until the end of the semester

Since it is currently not predictable when classroom teaching will be possible again, TU Wien has decided as a precaution to extend Distance Learning until the end of the summer semester 2020 for all courses for which this is possible.

COVID-19: Current information

The decision is based, on the one hand, on the desire to put an end to the uncertain situation in order to enable planning for the semester, and, on the other hand, on the fact that there are currently no opportunities for exercises and examinations. There will be an even greater need for room resources afterwards in order to handle these as efficiently as possible.

Exams

As soon as the Ministry's security measures allow the TU Wien to reopen its gates, examinations and courses for which on-site attendance is absolutely necessary can be held again. With the measure to extend Distance Learning until the end of the semester, we create the framework conditions to make this possible (free lecture hall capacities for examinations and block courses).

TU Wien is aware that the changeover to Distance Learning is not possible across the board and requires great commitment from all participants. Our lecturers and our Distance Learning Team are still working with extraordinary commitment to convert the courses to Distance Learning in the best possible way. Please also use the feedback possibilities in the courses to find out the best methods for Distance Learning together.

We are also evaluating Distance Learning examination methods and want to make them available as soon as possible.

Legal framework

There are many inquiries regarding possible extension of the grace period, semester census, handling of registration for extraordinary civilian service/presence service, payment/repayment of tuition fees, etc., which we cannot answer because possible regulations are beyond our control.

In the coming weeks, the Ministry will also discuss these open study law and organizational issues with the universities. It is to be expected that by Easter there will be more clarity on the points raised and regulations will be issued for the benefit of the students.
