ESPON | RESH – Regional effects of housing shortage

[Translate to English:] Salzburg

In late 2024, the SRF was selected, along with partners from the ETH-Zurich, HAW Hamburg, and planning firm MCrit in Barcelona, to conduct a new study entitled “Regional Effects of Housing Shortage.” The project brings practical experiences from European regions together in a case study format to provide insights into the ways housing shortages in major urban areas spill over into neighbouring regions (including housing demand, travel patterns, economic development etc.). The consortium’s goal is to shed light on how local governments cooperate (or don’t) to address regional housing crises and bring recommendations for future policy responses. A particular focus is on how these insights can inform regional housing policy in Switzerland, where spillover effects from housing shortages are a key concern.
