Master's Thesis: Determining the emissions of microplastics during laundry washing

We’re thrilled to share insights from ,Abdülbaki Özdemir, one of our students' master thesis!

The goal of this research is to quantify the material loss of synthetic textile fibers during washing, providing a deeper understanding of microplastic release and its environmental impacts. Through controlled experiments on used textiles, the study conducts a thorough analysis of microplastic emissions. Initially, the research examines the temporal development to understand how textiles behave over time. Following that, the influence of varying washing parameters on microplastic release is assessed.

We are proud of the innovative work our students are doing and look forward to more findings that could contribute to sustainability in the textile industry!
