From Excursion to Expertise: My Journey in Wind Energy

[Translate to English:] Rebekka Taylor

My name is Rebekka Taylor, and I am currently the Senior Membership Officer at WindEurope, opens an external URL in a new window, an organisation I have been part of for 5.5 years since graduating from the MSc ETIA (Environmental Technologies and International Affairs) in 2019.

My journey into the wind energy sector began when I enrolled in the ETIA programme in 2017. With a background in business management and no prior knowledge of renewable energy, I was eager to explore this new path. During the summer break, I completed a 3-month internship at WindEurope in the conference team. This hands-on experience offered me invaluable insights into the industry and deepened my passion for wind energy. The supportive environment at WindEurope allowed me to learn quickly and understand the importance of the sector in addressing global energy challenges.

One of the most memorable moments of my journey was an excursion to the Energie/Wind Park in Bruck a.d. Leitha. Seeing the massive scale of wind turbines up close and witnessing how one turbine can produce so much energy was truly awe-inspiring. It sparked my enthusiasm for renewable energy and confirmed my desire to contribute to the fight against climate change. This led me to focus my research and thesis on offshore wind energy and grid integration, further solidifying my commitment to the sector.

Today, as Senior Membership Officer, I manage member relations, ensuring that Wind Europe’s community receives the best support and resources. My role allows me to interact with a wide range of stakeholders and navigate complex projects. Over the years, I’ve strengthened essential skills, especially in tools like Excel, and I’ve come to embrace the challenges they present. What once seemed daunting has become a rewarding aspect of my work that I now genuinely enjoy.

Looking back, I’m incredibly grateful for the experiences that have shaped my career and for the opportunities to grow both personally and professionally. As I continue my work in the wind energy sector, I am more determined than ever to contribute to a sustainable, renewable future—one that powers both our world and our ambitions.
