On Thursday, November 9th 2023 we had the honour to welcome 20 new students for the 19th start of the MSc Renewable Energy Systems at TU Wien!

10 nations are represented in this year`s class, mirroring the highly international approach of the whole program. Throughout the next two years, the student group will be trained to become experts in planning and evaluating international projects in the field of alternative energy systems such as solar, wind or geothermal projects. They all bring prior first degrees in one or the other relevant field: technical, economic or legal.

After the welcoming words from the academic director Prof. Reinhard Haas, Karin Mottl, the managing director from our partner Energiepark Bruck/Leitha and the program team, the class started a morning lecture full of team-building activities. To get to know each other quickly, they introduced themselves to each other in a playful approach, guided by Prof. Fritz Stastny, a member of the faculty team. They also shared their passions and expectations about the program. The participants share a common educational interest and goal but come from different backgrounds - they are brought together by their urge to take active steps towards a more sustainable future.

After this easygoing start, they already heard lectures on the principles of renewable energy. This first module is about the underlying principles and getting all participants on the same page before they can dive in deeper during the upcoming two years that will prepare them for decision-making roles in the international renewable energy sector.

After their first lecture day, the program team joined them for a get-together at a typical Viennese restaurant next to the TU main campus.

We look forward to working with this new class and wish them a successful time at TU Wien.
