Getting insights into the automotive industry and research activities in Austria

Magna Steyr Graz 2014

On December 5, 2014 participants of the 5th Professional MBA Automotive Industry Program visited MAGNA Steyr Fahrzeugtechnik in Graz. MAGNA Steyr Fahrzeugtechnik is a leading engineering company in the automotive industry with a long history of contract manufacturing. The company manufactures Mecedes Benz G Class cars, Mini Countryman, Mini Paceman and Peugeout RCS.

After the presentation of the company and the supply chain management, participants visited the assembly line of Mecedes Benz G Class cars. Since 1979 more than 230,000 Mecedes Benz G Class cars have been produced, which makes one of the longest production runs in automotive history. Around 80% of the produced cars are still in use. Participants has already seen other OEM factories, but  this visit was a good chance to see one assembly line continuously operating since 1979.

Then participants visited also the Frank Stronach Institute (FSI), founded in 2004 as a joint venture of Magna International and Graz University of Technology. During the tour participants got glimps of  the research activities cconducted at the institute.

The excursion gave participants comprehensive state-of-the-art information of world-wide successfully acting Austrian company and  research institute how innovation oriented companies are acting and how they should act to be successful in the most challenging industry.

The participants and the Program Management woul like to thank MAGNA Steyr Fahrzeugtechnik in Graz & Frank Stronach Institute (FSI)  for their hospitality and valuable information.
