On December 18, 2023, Dr. Peter Steigenberger from DLR/GSOC (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt/German Space Operations Center) gave a talk in our Geo Colloquium series.

Abstract:
During the last decades, global and regional navigation satellites have gained an important role in our everyday life. In order to guarantee service continuity and to improve service quality, new types of spacecraft are developed and launched into space. Whereas the latest generation of GPS satellites comprises already six GPS III satellites in orbit, the first GLONASS-K2 was launched in August 2023. The Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS), also known as NavIC (Navigation with Indian Constellation), launched its first 2nd generation spacecraft NVS-01 in May 2023. This presentation summarizes the new capabilities of these satellites and presents selected results on signal and clock analysis as well as precise orbit determination.
