Brief information on the project

STOBIMO 2025 is an extension of the existing Austria-wide substance balance model, with an update of the input data for the period 2015-2020. The substance balance modeling enables the risk classification of unmonitored areas by providing quantitative representations of the input pathways and calculations of the effectiveness of implemented measures.

As part of this project, the MoRE model will be adapted for the period 2015-2020, updating basic data such as substance-specific input data for modeling and nutrient surpluses in agriculture. The RPhosFate transport and erosion model will be further developed in order to map the input paths of erosion and display the effects of phosphorus-reducing measures more accurately.

The focus is on two main areas. Firstly, a re-evaluation of the approaches for calculating area retention on roads in the Weinviertel, Mostviertel and parts of Styria will be carried out. Field inspections and mapping of runoff paths in test areas will provide insights that will be used to adapt the model approaches. In the second step, scenarios are calculated to illustrate the effects of implemented measures in the catchment area. A particular focus here is on the reduction of diffuse emissions from agriculture.
