The “Career Development” working group is dedicated to fostering an environment that supports the career growth of young researchers in the Faculty for Technical Chemistry at TU Wien. Our activities span a wide range of services, programs, and initiatives, all aimed at enhancing the professional skills and opportunities available to our members.
A significant focus of the group is mentorship. Our mentoring program pairs young researchers with established professionals in the field, offering a unique opportunity for career guidance, professional development, and networking. We also provide a series of professional training workshops and courses that cover crucial soft and hard skills, from grant writing and project management to public speaking and leadership training.
One of our notable successes has been the transition to English-language instruction for the master’s programs at the Faculty for Technical Chemistry. This shift significantly aids our international members by removing language barriers and expanding their academic and professional opportunities. We achieved this milestone through effective collaboration with the rectorate and other administrative bodies within TU Wien.
We are also engaged in ongoing discussions with the rectorate to identify and implement other initiatives beneficial to our members. These include, but are not limited to, negotiating faculty contracts (“Leistungsvereinbarung”), securing research facilities, and ensuring a more inclusive academic environment.
In summary, the “Career Development” working group is an active, dynamic team that is genuinely committed to improving the professional lives of YIA members. If you would like to be a part of this initiative or have ideas to contribute, please contact the chair or co-chair of the working group. Your active participation and input are highly encouraged and will be invaluable in shaping the future of career development within the academy.
