Lukas Freinberger, a master’s student at the Institute of Lightweight Design and Structural Biomechanics (ILSB), has been awarded a “Grant for diploma and PhD theses and specialist courses abroad” by TU Wien. The scholarship enables him to spend two months conducting research in Japan. The research results will support his diploma thesis with the planned title “Exploring Quantum Annealing for Coupled Structural Analysis Problems”, which is supervised at ILSB by Dr. Fabian Key.

During his stay, he collaborates with the team of Assoc. Prof. Mayu Muramatsu at Keio University, Tokyo. The aim of the joint research is to investigate the application of the quantum computing approach of quantum annealing (QA) for coupled structural problems. This builds upon previous work on structural design optimization using QA, which was published recently.

This opportunity not only highlights the significance of Lukas’s research but also fosters international academic collaboration at TU Wien. The ILSB is proud to support this endeavor and looks forward to the advancements this research will bring.
