Hiking Day 2023

The Institute for Lightweight Structures and Structural Biomechanics (ILSB) recently organized a hikingday where 17 participants set out to explore the natural beauty and culture of Vienna. The chosen route, spanning approximately 14 kilometers, promised a day filled with breathtaking landscapes and culinary delights.

TU Wien excursion to SGL Composites GmbH and FACC AG

A joint excursion of the Institute of Lightweight Structures and Structural Biomechanics and the Aircraft Systems Research Group of the Institute of Engineering Design and Product Development to SGL Composites GmbH and FACC AG in the Innviertel region took place on September 28th. The students, who have already completed courses in lightweight construction/composites as well as aircraft design and aircraft systems engineering, gained an insight into the production and working environment of renowned and internationally successful companies.

In the public discussion, the rise of artificial intelligence often raises concerns about its impact on human employment. In the week of September 18, Prof. Stefanie Elgeti (ILSB, TU Wien) and Prof. Matthias Möller (TU Delft, Netherlands) co-organized a course at the International Centre for Mechanical Sciences (CISM) in Udine, Italy that challenges this perspective.

TU Wien excursion to Augsburg and Munich

From 24 to 26 May, the Institute of Lightweight Structures and Structural Biomechanics and the Institute of Engineering Design and Product Development went on a joint excursion to several companies in the Augsburg and Munich areas. On this occasion, 20 students who have already completed courses in lightweight construction/composites as well as aircraft design and aircraft systems engineering gained an insight into the production and working environment of renowned and internationally successful companies.

The ILSB is one of nine institutes of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Management Sciences at the TU Wien, Vienna, Austria. We are actively involved in teaching and research at the TU Wien, especially in the areas of computer-aided and experimental characterization of materials and structures.
