Block lecture “Catalytic Pollutant Reduction of Internal Combustion Engines” by Dr. Lukas Möltner

29. May 2024
The block lecture "Catalytic Pollutant Reduction of Internal Combustion Engines" by Dr. Lukas Möltner will be held from June 3 to 4, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day in seminar room BA10B (BA high-rise building), Getreidemarkt 9.

Subject of course

The lecture is structured as follows:

  •     Legal and technical framework
  •     Terms of reaction engineering (conversion, yield, selectivity, residence time…)
  •     Basics of catalysis (partial steps, kinetics and reaction mechanisms of heterogeneous catalysis, approaches to reactor modeling)
  •     Types and structure of exhaust catalysts (supported catalysts, washcoats…)
  •     Deactivation of catalysts
  •     Technologies and implemented systems (oxidation catalysts, 3-way catalysts, nitrogen oxide storage catalysts NSK, selective catalytic reduction of nitrogen oxides SCR…)

Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to apply the fundamentals of reaction technology to the exhaust gas cleaning of internal combustion engines. In the course of this course, students will learn different approaches and methods to design systems for exhaust gas purification on vehicle drives in the field of tension between legal and technical conditions.
